Trump’s Good Day

I said I wouldn’t dwell on the details of Donald Trump’s Manhattan trial, and I won’t. But you do need to know what happened in the courtroom yesterday. Alvin Bragg’s case against Trump took a big hit yesterday, as Michael Cohen’s lies fell apart under cross-examination.

Even the Trump-haters in the left-wing media were forced to concede that Cohen’s testimony was a disaster. Here’s what CNN’s Anderson Cooper had to say:

“Michael Cohen was cornered in what appeared here to be a lie. . . and everyone in the courtroom could tell. . . I think it’s devastating for Michael Cohen’s credibility. . . I think if I was a juror in this case watching that, I would think, this guy’s making this up as he’s going along.”

Cooper wasn’t the only one shocked by Cohen’s testimony. CNN’s legal analyst Elie Honig put it this way:

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen a star cooperating witness get his knees chopped out quite as clearly and dramatically as what just happened with Michael Cohen. . . But this goes to the heart of the allegation here. . . that was a devastating moment.”

MSNBC Chief Legal Correspondent Ari Melber said:

“I think the punches are building cumulatively. I think Tuesday there were bruises, and today there is blood. . . The collective view is these are moments the jury will remember, and they [Trump’s defense team] are instilling or adding possible doubts about Michael Cohen’s long-term credibility.”

Cohen’s testimony was so damaging to the prosecution’s case that NYU Law Professor Ryan Goodman said, “I think what happened today is so devastating. . .  If the case ended today and there were final statements, I think there would not be a conviction.”

But the case isn’t over yet. Many observers believe the outcome of the trial was settled when the jury was picked, and it’s 50/50 as to whether Trump is found guilty or not guilty.
