The Senate Appeasement Caucus

There was a telling vote in the Senate yesterday regarding the Biden Administration's attempt to appease the radical regime in Iran with a new nuclear deal.

The resolution expressed opposition to any new deal with Iran that fails to address the regime's support for terrorism and its ballistic missile program. It also expressed the Senate's opposition to lifting sanctions on the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), a designated terrorist organization.

Incredibly, the Biden Administration has apparently considered lifting those sanctions, and the IRGC designation remains perhaps the last major point of contention.

While the resolution passed 62-to-33, it should have been 100-to-0. Sadly, it revealed how large the appeasement caucus in the Senate has become. One-third of the Senate, and nearly two-thirds of Senate liberals, are willing to give Iran a pass for its state-sponsorship of terrorism!

Rand Paul was the only Republican to oppose the resolution. While I admire Paul's tenacity during the COVID battle and on other critical issues, I was disappointed to see his vote on this resolution. I hope to talk to him soon to understand his rationale.
