The Intolerant Left

Last week, New York’s left-wing Attorney General Letitia James delivered a speech at a promotion ceremony for the New York Fire Department. Some weren’t happy with the invited speaker and felt the non-political event was being unnecessarily politicized.

When James took the podium to begin her remarks, she was greeted by a round of boos and chants of “Trump! Trump! Trump!”

I have no doubt that James is being groomed to become a future governor or senator, and this address to the fire department promotion ceremony was part of the effort to raise her profile. But it turned into an embarrassment for her, and New York City Fire Department Commissioner Laura Kavanaugh is not happy.

Commissioner Kavanaugh has launched an investigation to track down the firefighters who interrupted James’s speech. Rank and file firefighters were warned that officials have “clear video of the entire incident,” and anyone who interrupted James had better come forward and confess.

“It will be better for them if they come forward and we don’t have to hunt them down,” one official wrote. That sounds ominous.

So, these firefighters are being treated like January 6th defendants. Booing left-wing politicians in New York is now an act of insurrection. One retired firefighter blasted the New York Fire Department’s witch hunt, writing that it was sending “their fascist pit bulls after guys for exercising their First Amendment rights.”

When radical students interrupt conservative speakers on university campuses, the left says the unruly students are just exercising their free speech rights. When Riley Gaines is trapped in a room and held hostage by an angry mob, and the university does absolutely nothing, everybody shrugs and moves on.

But if you dare boo the attorney general of New York, you may as well be living in Moscow.
