American Values
The Good, The Bad & The Ugly
Yesterday, Americans all across the country recognized the 21st anniversary of the vicious 9/11 attacks. I was pleased to see what appeared to be a greater emotional reaction to the anniversary than I had initially expected. But the left provided its usual quota of disgusting insanity.
First, the good. A young New York City policewoman had the honor of singing the national anthem at the Jets/Ravens NFL game yesterday. Either her mic went out or she just stopped singing for some reason.
But tens of thousands of New Yorkers in the packed stadium picked up right where she left off and belted out the national anthem. If you missed it, you can watch it here. It will make your day.
In stark contrast to that moving display of patriotism, Rep. Pramila Jayapal, chairwoman of the House Progressive Caucus, tweeted this: “Today we remember the 2,996 people who were killed on 9/11.” There’s just one problem – she’s off by exactly 19 extra people.
Jayapal evidently wanted to remember the honored dead and included the 19 Islamist hijackers. Unbelievably, she did the same thing last year. And, just like last year, she quickly took down her tweet. She’s obviously trying to make an insane ideological point.
If that wasn’t bad enough, Virginia Senator Mark Warner, a so-called “moderate,” used the 9/11 anniversary to launch an ugly attack on millions of Americans.
The chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee was asked by “Face the Nation” host Margaret Brennan, “How vulnerable [do] you think America is now, [and] are we paying enough attention to the Middle East and to Afghanistan?”
Warner took that question about the Middle East and suggested that the greatest threat to America today comes from MAGA conservatives. I’m curious: Where was Sen. Warner over the past year on the failed vetting of Afghan refugees?
But Sen. Warner wasn’t alone. Hillary Clinton exploited 9/11 to attack those in her “basket of deplorables.” Even President Joe Biden could not resist using his remarks at the Pentagon’s 9/11 memorial service to more subtly rehash his recent comments about “defending our democracy.”
Of course, the compliant left-wing media knew exactly what he meant by that, given the administration’s obsession with “right-wing domestic terrorism.”
