Second Amendment Under Siege

America has huge problems that are causing an explosion of crime. Most of the violence is happening in major cities dominated by leftist mayors and city councils. 

These leftist politicians have handcuffed the cops, and in some cases defunded their police departments. They have instituted easy or no bail policies that put criminals back on the streets. They are presiding over failed schools, in which truancy is sky high. 

The larger context of the growing crime crisis involves fatherless families, a cultural collapse of Judeo-Christian values and the accompanying moral decay that is corrupting every institution in American life.

All these problems are essentially rooted in political and cultural progressivism.

After the horror in Uvalde, forces that want to disarm law-abiding citizens are repeating the phrase “mass shootings” and demanding that we “do something.” 

Everyone wants to stop the horror that took place at Robb Elementary. There are things that can be done without taking rights away from law-abiding Americans.

But let’s be clear about this: Most “mass shootings” involve gang violence and the drug trade. By some estimates, 90% of the guns used in the commission of a crime were illegally obtained. It shouldn’t shock anyone that criminals don’t obey gun laws.

Over the weekend, gun fire erupted at a street party in Philadelphia. Fourteen people were shot. Three were killed. No arrests have been made. 

This weekend in Chicago, 28 people were shot. Four were killed. The gang members and drug dealers engaged in this kind of “routine” violence just melt back into their neighborhoods. 

They don’t care one whit about some bipartisan agreement coming out of Congress that will most likely make it harder for law-abiding Americans in those communities to own a firearm to protect themselves.

There’s a story out of Texas that won’t get the coverage it deserves. A woman was being stalked by an unhinged man. She had recently moved, but the man found her and was breaking down her front door when she opened fire and killed him. 

Thank God that lady lives in America where the Second Amendment allows her to protect herself.
