Roberts Defends The Court
If Senate progressives succeed in eliminating the filibuster, the odds are overwhelming that they will take other extreme actions like packing the Supreme Court with additional left-wing radicals.
So, it was notable this weekend that Chief Justice John Roberts, who frequently disappoints conservatives, took a moment to defend the Supreme Court from left-wing attacks. Speaking at a judicial conference over the weekend, Roberts said:
“The Court has always decided controversial cases and decisions always have been subject to intense criticism and that is entirely appropriate. . . Yes, all of our opinions are open to criticism. In fact, our members do a great job of criticizing some opinions from time to time. But simply because people disagree with an opinion is not a basis for criticizing the legitimacy of the court.”
The left’s aggressive and dangerous attacks on an independent branch of government led an unhinged radical to threaten to kill multiple justices.
I am glad the chief justice spoke up against the left’s intolerance. I hope he continues to do so.
