God’s Hand

A few days ago, Donald Trump spoke with faith leaders in North Carolina. During his remarks, he talked about the assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, and the impact it has had on him. He said:

“As I look back at my life’s journey and events, I now recognize that it’s been the hand of God leading me to where I am today. And my faith took on new meaning on July 13th in Butler, Pennsylvania, where I was knocked to the ground essentially by what seemed like a supernatural hand. And I would like to think that God saved me for a purpose, and that’s to make our country greater than ever before.”

That’s a powerful way to describe what happened. God’s hand of protection was on Donald Trump as he turned his head, and God pushed him down as more shots rang out.

During his swing through North Carolina, Trump also met with residents whose communities were devastated by Hurricane Helene. He told them a “new crew” would be coming soon who would ensure their communities are fully and properly rebuilt.

“We will never forget about you,” Trump said. “We’re going to be working with you for a long time to come to get it back together.”

At that event, Mike Stewart, a local businessman, talked about how he lost everything in the catastrophic flooding. But Stewart’s thoughts weren’t focused on his loss.

He told Trump that his perseverance, no matter what is thrown at him, would inspire their community to “press on and move forward.” Then, Stewart asked Trump if he could pray for him. He put his hand on the president’s shoulder and offered this prayer:

“Father, I thank You for this man that You have raised up in this moment in this season for Your purposes. I pray that You would anoint him that things aren’t done just by might or by power but by Your spirit.

“So, I ask that You anoint President Donald Trump and give him a spirit of wisdom and understanding and insight as he moves to lead this nation back to greatness. In Jesus name, I pray.”

I have been in the White House many times with other Christian leaders who laid their hands on President Trump and prayed over him. He has grown in his faith every year I have known him.

When he had the authority to set policy for our country, he did God’s work. He fought for religious liberty. And Donald Trump is the reason why abortion is no longer a “right’ in our Constitution.
