Biden’s Failed Foreign Policy
As Joe Biden continues his disastrous Middle East trip, I am reminded of the quip by Barack Obama’s former defense secretary, Robert Gates: “[Joe Biden’s] been wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades.”
With each passing day, it is increasingly evident that America has no coherent foreign policy under this administration. None of it is consistent with any other part or aspect.
The only thing you can say is that it appears to be stuck 30 years in the past when Joe Biden was in his prime, and that in every way today it is hurting America and putting our interests and those of our allies last. This morning was a perfect example.
President Biden stood next to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who is now in his 17th year of his four-year term. (Since taking office in 2005, Abbas has refused to call for new elections because he knows he will be defeated by even more radical Palestinian leaders.)
During their joint press conference, Biden said:
“As I stand with you today, now as president of the United States, my commitment to that goal of a two-state solution has not changed in all these years. Two states along the 1967 lines . . . remain the best way to achieve equal measure of security, prosperity, freedom, and democracy for the Palestinians as well as Israelis.”
Those 1967 borders are generally referred to by most Israelis as “suicide borders.” They shrink the country to a few miles in width. There is not a political party left or right in Israel (except for the Arab parties) that supports taking the Jewish state back to the 1967 borders.
Moreover, Mahmoud Abbas is in no position to negotiate anything. His approval rating (23%) is worse than Joe Biden’s, and 77% of Palestinians want him to resign.
Most significantly, there’s no evidence that the Palestinians are interested in a two-state solution – 69% of Palestinians oppose the idea of two-states living side-by-side in peace. They want one state in which they are the dominant majority, and in which Israel – the only Jewish state in the entire world – no longer exists.
The world Joe Biden lives in increasingly bears no resemblance to reality.
