Biden v. Scott
President Joe Biden delivered remarks today at the White House that administration officials initially said would "focus on his plan to fight inflation." Instead, Biden spent most of his time picking a fight with Florida Senator Rick Scott.
For example, Biden claimed that "ultra MAGA Republicans" want to raise taxes on millions of hard-working Americans. That charge is based on Scott's suggestion that it's not good for democracy if millions of people don't pay any federal income taxes at all. Even if they pay just $1.00, Scott believes it is good for everyone to have a stake in the country.
That's an interesting philosophical argument, but it's nothing more than that. It's not the Republican Party's plan. It's not the Senate GOP's plan. Mitch McConnell hasn't endorsed it. It's nobody's plan, and Scott said so himself, "This is what Rick Scott believes in, it's not the Republican plan. . . It's nobody else's policy ideas."
The liberal Washington Post gave Biden "Three Pinocchios" for making this false claim before, but he repeated it again today. That's no surprise – he regularly lies.
And let's be absolutely clear about this: While Biden talks about imaginary tax hikes, the soaring inflation he created is a very real tax on the American people, costing them hundreds of dollars every month!
Biden went on to blame high gas prices on the energy industry and Vladimir Putin. That's another lie.
Long before Putin invaded Ukraine, leading liberal economists were warning that Biden's massive deficit spending was going to cause an inflationary nightmare.
Biden is also calling for higher taxes on corporations and businesses. Now, I'm not going out of my way to defend Corporate America that's pushing a woke agenda on men and women of faith. But the last thing we should be doing when inflation is out of control is raising taxes on businesses.
Taxes are just part of the cost of doing business, and unlike the federal government, businesses cannot print money.
If you raise the cost of doing business, businesses will simply pass on those costs by raising the price of their products. They will recoup higher taxes through higher prices that you have to pay.
Sadly, Biden did not offer a plan to fight inflation, just more deflection and demagoguery.
Sen. Rick Scott responded to President Biden's rambling remarks today. In a blistering statement, Scott said Biden was "unfit" and "incoherent, incapacitated and confused," adding that the best thing Biden could do to address the inflation crisis is to resign.
