Bibi’s Back

Israeli voters went to the polls yesterday for their fifth election in four years.  The result this time, amid high voter turnout among the most religious Israeli communities, was a decisive victory for Benjamin Netanyahu!

Preliminary reports indicate that the conservative/religious coalition will control a majority of 65 seats in the Knesset.  The far-left Meretz Party may be totally locked out of the Knesset.  As one astute follower of Israeli politics put it, “Imagine a Congress with no Squad members!  That by itself is a victory for Israel.”

It’s worth noting that the chaos of Israeli democracy, often a messy business, stands in stark contrast to the dictatorship of the Palestinian Authority, where President Mahmoud Abbas hasn’t stood for reelection since 2005!
