A Colossal Mistake

After 9/11, the Bush Administration vowed to get the jihadists who brutally murdered 3,000 Americans. But soon, this laudable goal morphed into a fool’s errand of “nation building.”

Well-intentioned people thought they could turn the Middle East into America. They thought the Islamic world was just as receptive to democracy and human rights as the rest of the Western world. 

So, we went off into no-win wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Countless families lost sons and daughters. We spent unimaginable sums of money. It’s one of the major reasons we’re in the financial mess we are today. 

But it’s worse than that.

Using national defense and homeland security as an excuse, too many politicians on both sides of the aisle dramatically grew the government and dramatically increased the power of the Deep State. 

We were assured that these new powers wouldn’t be abused and there were plenty of safeguards, like the FISA courts. And, of course, there was always congressional oversight. Besides, we should “trust the good guys.”

Here we are 22 years later and every one of those tools has been turned against the American people. The Deep State used that power to take down the first president in modern history who was willing to take on the DC Swamp.  

Yet, when those abuses were exposed, the Deep State didn’t back down. It doubled down. Now it’s censoring the truth and going after Catholic churches and parents at school board meetings.

And here’s the latest scandal: A whistleblower has told congressional investigators that the CIA offered “significant monetary incentives” for experts investigating the origins of COVID-19 to change their positions and downplay the possibility of a lab leak. Once again, Big Brother doesn’t trust you with the truth.

We have frittered our money away. We have frittered our liberty away. Now we’re in a fight to save America.
